Scenarios and Roadmaps of biofuel RTD in LA - Work Package 6 With respect to the future development of the Latin American biofuel market, the objective is to identify key uncertainty factors influencing the market, to elaborate future scenarios by using these uncertainty factors and finally to develop RTD roadmaps based on the scenarios. The outcomes and findings of all other WP’s on technical, sustainability, standardisation, trade and policy aspects will be taken into account in order to fulfill theis Task. The aim is to create robust RTD roadmaps for selected countries in LA (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico) with regard to biofuel development, LA-EU collaboration, and RTD strategies. These roadmaps take into consideration 1st generation and 2nd generation biofuel technologies and include research strategies in LA as well as LA-EU, bi-lateral, national and regional policy strategies for supporting RTD in the field of biomass conversion technologies. Policy Recommendations on RTD in LA and EU-LA cooperation - Work Package 7
Based on the results and outcomes of the scenarios of WP6 and the other work packages, recommendations on future cooperation opportunities between RTD organizations in Europe and Latin America are developed in WP 7. Within this, research areas comprise biofuel conversion technologies, sustainable biofuel production, as well as biofuel standardization and trade. Furthermore, the elaboration and formulation of policy recommendations helps to improve and support research and development in the field of biomass conversion technologies in Latin America and Europe. Recommendations on RTD cooperation opportunities are elaborated with the special focus on 2nd generation biofuels and integrated biorefineries, as well as on sustainability aspects of biofuel production. With respect to the importance of biofuel standardization and trade, these issues are also part of the recommendations. In order to develop objective and impartial recommendations, selected stakeholders are included in this process. The elaboration of dedicated policy recommendations supports RTD in selected countries in LA (e.g. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico). Advice is given on how research and development in the field of biofuels and biomass conversion technologies could be supported in Latin America. BioTop EU-LA Cooperation Conference
A final EU-LA cooperation conference will be organised in the end of the BioTop project. Scenarios, roadmaps and policy recommendations will be presented to the international biofuel research community and policy makers. Infomation on the BioTop EU-LA Cooperation Conference will be available in 2009.
